Introduction
This section of the site is attempting to record the important occurrences in e-Government in Australiastarting with Federal Government, but hopefully later including state/territory governments and significant local government activities too.
The current information is drawn from press releases and coloured views about what constitutes e-Government activity. I'm most interested to stay focused on activities that directly effect the actions and delivery of government, but have noted some important reports, announcements, etc, related to the broader Information Economy Agenda. As my resources permit, I will link to the relevant documents and reports.
All information about government activity in the e-government sphere to enrich this timeline (eg, specific agency initiatives and announcements, are vigorously solicited and will be correctly acknowledged.
What is Time?
For the purposes of this site, e-Government has three main chapters (at present):
-
Pre-historydefined for convenience as everything that involved the introduction of information technologies into government ahead of the Investing for Growth statement of 1997.
-
Building e-Governmentdefined as everything between the Prime Minister's initial announcement of "all appropriate services online by 2001" and his announcement of the achievement of that feat (!) in February 2002.
1998
-
e-Government and Beyonddefined as everything from the Prime Minister's (bold) claim of success and the present day.
